P.H. Ravi Kumar, Non-Executive Chairman

P H Ravikumar

P.H. Ravikumar is a commercial banker with over 39 years of experience in the financial services sector. He was part of the core team which set up and built ICICI Bank Limited from inception. In banking, his experience spans the areas of retail, corporate and treasury banking in India and abroad. At ICICI Bank, his responsibilities included business strategy as also risk management and he helped this unit become an industry leader in a short span of time. As the Head of SME & Agri Business in the merged ICICI Bank, his role included building and growing the bank’s portfolio in these sectors both on liabilities as well as on assets side, apart from services to these sectors. In its first full year of functioning, the bank emerged as the second largest lender to the agri business sector in India, with disbursements of over INR 200 crores (USD 42 million). He was also the founder Managing Director and CEO of National Commodities & Derivatives Exchange Ltd. He and his team conceptualized and set up the Exchange.
Ravikumar is a Commerce graduate with professional qualifications as an associate of Indian Institute of Bankers and the Chartered Institute of Bankers London. He is also a Fellow of Securities Investments Institute, London.
He is on the boards of several other companies including Bharat Forge Ltd and Eveready Industries India Ltd.

Geoff Woolley, Independent Director

Geoff Woolley

Geoff has been active in private equity investing for over 25 years, founding two successful venture funds in the United States and Europe. He pioneered the concept of venture debt and has invested in over 400 companies in his career, including Ciena, Coinstar, Hotmail and Human Genome Science. He is a Founding Partner of Dominion Ventures, Inc. and European Venture Partners (now called Kreos Capital). In 1998, he assumed an advisory role at Dominion in order to pursue impact investing, non-profit and other business interests.

Geoff is the co-founder and CEO of Unitus Impact, an early-stage impact investing firm with the mission of improving the livelihoods of low-income populations by supporting the growth of scalable, financially attractive livelihood ventures.

Among many positions, Geoff holds Board seats at Micro Benefits China, Samhita Microfinance in Bhopal, and other social enterprises benefiting those at the base of the economic pyramid. He has been instrumental in the launch of companies such as Unitus Capital and Unitus Equity Fund. He is also the co-founder and current board chair of both the University Venture Fund, the largest and most successful student-led venture fund in the United States, and the University Impact Fund, which partners university students with top-tier impact investing firms, social enterprises, developmental finance institutions and philanthropic foundations for real-time impact investing projects and investments.

Geoff holds a BS in business management from Brigham Young University and an MBA from the University of Utah.

M. R. Rao, CEO and Managing Director

M R Rao

MR’s expertise lies in managing operations in a large business environment, formulating business strategies and identifying new markets. An alumni of BITS Pilani, he has over 25 years of experience in Profit Centre Management, setting up distribution in Insurance, Retail Banking and Consumer Finance. Prior to SKS, he was associated with ING Vysya Life Insurance, American Express, Standard Chartered Bank and Esanda Finanz & Leasing Limited. MR joined SKS in October 2006 and has been at the forefront, driving its rural distribution reach and scale-up. MR shouldered the responsibility of combating the AP MFI crisis and insulating the non-AP operations from the contagion risk. He held the executive management team together.

M.R. Rao

K.G.Alai, Nominee Director, SIDBI

K.G.Alai

Mr.K.G.Alai, Chief General Manager, Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI), Mumbai, is a career development banker. He is a Post Graduate in Commerce with a Degree in Law and Diploma in Banking. He is also a qualified Company Secretary. He started his career in the country's apex development bank viz the Industrial Development Bank of India (IDBI).

He has over three decades of practical experience in development and financing of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) both in IDBI and SIDBI. He had extensive field level operational and promotional engagement with MSMEs and Micro Finance Institutions in major centres of the Bank.

Presently he guides the Business Operations of SIDBI from the Corporate level through a network of Regional Offices and also heads the Human Resources Development Department. Prior to this, he was the Country Head of the Equity & Risk Capital Vertical and Fund of Funds operations of SIDBI. His past responsibilities also comprised Treasury Management.

Mr.Alai was the nominee director of SIDBI on the boards of several assisted Corporates, Government Corporations, VC Funds etc. He has represented SIDBI in several international programmes on MSME financing and related topics.

Paresh Patel, CEO, Sandstone Capital

Paresh Patel is the CEO of Sandstone Capital, an India-focused hedge fund. Sandstone is a value-oriented investment partnership focused on long-term opportunities in India, with a preference for deep value, special situations, midcaps and complex opportunities. Sandstone Capital has an office in Boston. Prior to Sandstone Capital LLC, Paresh Patel was the Managing Director of Sparta Group, the private investment office of Gururaj Deshpande, founder of Sycamore Networks. At Sparta, Paresh invested with Desh in early-stage ventures in the US and India - including A123 Systems, Indian Lotus, Relicore and Tejas Networks. Paresh is a graduate of Harvard Business School and Boston College.

Sumir Chadha is the Managing Director with WestBridge formerly Sequoia Capital. WestBridge formerly Sequoia Capital was formed by merging Sequoia Capital and WestBridge Capital Partners, India's leading venture capital fund, which Sumir co-founded in 2000. Sumir has been investing in the Indian venture capital industry for the past ten years in several industries including offshore services, consumer internet and financial services. Prior to co-founding WestBridge, Sumir was a member of the Principal Investment Area at Goldman Sachs & Co., where he led a number of successful software and services investments. Prior to that, Sumir worked at McKinsey & Co. in New York and New Delhi. Sumir received an MBA with Distinction from Harvard Business School and a BSE in Computer Science from Princeton University. Sumir is the co-founder and Chairman of the Global India Venture Capital Association (GIVCA) and also a Charter Member of The Indus Entrepreneurs (TiE).

Dr. Tarun Khanna, Independent Director, Professor at Harvard Business School

Tarun Khanna

Dr. Tarun Khanna, Jorge Paulo Lemann Professor at Harvard Business School, has been a member of the faculty since 1993, where he studies, and works with, multinational and indigenous companies and investors in emerging markets worldwide. He has headed several MBA and executive education programmes at Harvard, focused on strategy, leadership and governance, and currently teaches in Harvard’s comprehensive general management executive education programmes. Additionally, he serves as Faculty Chair of Harvard Business School’s efforts in India. Outside Harvard, he serves on the boards of a number of publicly traded and privately held companies, volunteers time with nonprofits in the US and India, and mentors entrepreneurs in Asia. He earned a Bachelors of Science in Engineering degree from Princeton University in 1988, Summa Cum Laude, Phi Beta Kappa, and a Ph.D. in Business Economics from Harvard University in 1993. His best-selling book, Billions of Entrepreneurs: How China and India Are Reshaping Their Futures and Yours South Asia : Harvard Business Press; Penguin Press.was published in 2008 and has been translated into numerous languages. In 2007, he was nominated to be a Young Global Leader (under 40) by the World Economic Forum. In 2009, he was elected a Fellow of the Academy of International Business.

S. Balachandran

S. Balachandran has 35 years of experience in the Government and Corporate Sector including an overseas assignment. Among the key positions held by him in the past are: Additional Member (Budget), Ministry of Railways; Managing Director, Indian Railway Finance Corporation; Joint Director in the office of the Comptroller and Auditor General of India. He is presently on the Boards of Dredging Corporation of India, PTC India Limited, PTC Energy Limited, ONGC Petro Additions Limited and United Stock Exchange Limited (SEBI nominee).

Dr.Punita Kumar Sinha, Independent Director

Dr.Punita Kumar Sinha

Dr. Punita Kumar-Sinha, 52, is an Independent Director of our Company. Ms. Punita Kumar-Sinha is the Founder and Managing Partner, Pacific Paradigm Advisors, an independent investment advisory and management firm. Prior to founding Pacific Paradigm Advisors in 2012, Ms. Kumar-Sinha was Head of Blackstone Asia Advisors (BAA) L.L.C. and its Chief Investment Officer, and was a Senior Managing Director of The Blackstone Group L.P.

Ms. Kumar-Sinha has twenty five years of experience in fund management in emerging markets, being one of the first foreign investors into India. Before joining Blackstone, Ms. Kumar-Sinha was a Managing Director at Oppenheimer Asset Management Inc., and CIBC World Markets. She has also been a Portfolio Manager on the emerging markets team at Batterymarch (a Legg Mason company), and on the international equity team at Standish Ayer & Wood (a BNY Mellon company).

Ms. Kumar-Sinha has a Ph.D. and a Masters in Finance from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania. She received her undergraduate degree in chemical engineering with distinction from the Indian Institute of Technology, New Delhi. She holds an MBA degree and is also a CFA Charter holder. Ms. Kumar-Sinha is a member of the CFA Institute and the Council on Foreign Relations.

Rajender Mohan Malla, Additional and Independent Director

Mr. Rajender Mohan Malla

Mr. Rajender Mohan Malla had done post-graduation in Commerce (M. Com), Masters in Business Administration (MBA), National Management Programme (PGDBM). In addition to this, he has been a member of Certified Associate of Indian Institute of Bankers (CAIIB). He started his professional career as Banker in 1975 as an Assistant Manager at Syndicate Bank and rose to become Chairman and Managing Director of IDBI Bank. Post retirement, he was appointed as Managing Director & CEO of PTC India Financial Services Limited, a subsidiary of PTC India Limited for about two (2) years till May 2015. During his career spanning 40 years in the Banking Industry, Mr. Malla held top and significant decision-making positions in Banks, Financial Institutions & NBFCs in India viz., IDBI Bank Limited, SIDBI, IFCI, PTC India Financial Services Limited, IDBI (as Development Financial Institution) and Syndicate Bank.
