December 1997    

SKS is registered as a non-profit society in Andhra Pradesh, India.

June 1998

SKS starts micro-finance operations in Narayankhed mandal of Medak District in Andhra Pradesh.

December 1999

SKS establishes the SKS Foundation in USA to support its cause.

November 2000

SKS receives a grant from i2 cares of the i2 foundation to launch its pre-school program.

December 2000

SKS starts its Pre-School education and nutrition program.

April 2001

SKS rolls out its MIS developed by its in-house software team.

June 2001

SKS starts its sustainable agriculture project at Narayankhed.

June 2001

Smartcard Project at SKS wins the CGAP Pro-Poor Innovation Award.

March 2002

SKS is the finalist at the Business Plan competion at the Haas School of Business, Berkeley, California.

April 2002

All the field operations are equipped with computerized MIS.

September 2002

SKS is chosen as one of the few MFI's by CGAP to implement the Activity Based Costing tool.

October 2002

SKS is the finalist at the Stockholm Challenge for innovative application of information technologies, 2002.

November 2002

SKS reaches to 10,000 poor families.

June 2003 Unitus, a global microfinance accelerator,  announces a $4.675 million investment in SKS 
July 2003 SKS reaches to 20,000 poor families.
September 2003 SKS incorporates SKS Microfinance Ltd. ("SKSM"), the for-profit spinoff that will take over microfinance operations once SKSM receives its NBFC licence from the Indian government.
